Barkie Golf has no server, no account system, no analytics and no ads. We collect nothing — we have no way to receive your data even if we wanted to. Your location is read on your phone, used on your phone, and stays on your phone. The only network requests the app ever makes are to Google, for map imagery and fonts, and those are described precisely below.
The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number or any other identifying information, and never creates an account or identifier for you on any system we operate — because no such system exists. Your golf scores, round history and club stats are likewise never collected by, uploaded to, or accessible on any server we run (see section 3). The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs and no crash-reporting services.
Your round history, shot log, tee setups, bag and preferences are saved in local app storage on your phone only. They are never transmitted to us — we operate no server and receive nothing. If you export a backup, the file is created on your phone and shared through your phone's own share sheet to a destination you choose (your email, your cloud drive, and so on). We never receive a copy, and whatever service you send it to is governed by that service's own privacy policy.
If you delete the app or clear its storage, your device's operating system removes this data. Because we keep no remote copy, we cannot recover it for you — the app's manual export feature is the privacy-safe way to keep your own backup and move your data between devices.
While you're actively using the app, it reads your position from your phone's operating system to:
All of those calculations happen on the device. The app never uploads your GPS coordinates anywhere — not to us (we have no server), not to Google Cloud or any other cloud, and not to any advertiser or analytics service. Location is not read in the background: when the app is closed or backgrounded, the location stream stops.
One technical note for completeness: the position itself is supplied by your phone's operating system (such as Apple's iOS Location Services, or on Android typically Google Play services' fused location provider). How your OS determines location is controlled by your device settings and your OS vendor's privacy policy, not by this app — the app only reads the result.
The app makes network requests only to Google, in two narrow cases:
Google is the only third-party service provider embedded in the app. Both services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy, and the app makes no other network requests of any kind.
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children — it doesn't collect personal information from any user, of any age.
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top of the page. Because the app collects nothing, changes are expected to be rare and editorial.
Barkie Golf is operated from Victoria, Australia, and we aim to handle privacy in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because the app collects and holds no personal information about you on any system we operate, the APP obligations that turn on holding personal information — securing it, using or disclosing it, and giving you access to it or correcting it — are simply not engaged: there is no held personal information for us to secure, disclose, access or correct. If you ever have a privacy question or concern, contact us using the details below and we'll address it consistent with the APPs.
